Nominations for DAM Prize for Architecture

27.07.2022 - Notes

Two projects in which schneider+schumacher were involved have been nominated for the DAM Prize: the PANDION DOXX in Mainz, and the canteen at the Vocational Training Centre North in Darmstadt. In total the long-list consists of 116 buildings and ensembles that propose solutions to current challenges concerning buildings and the built environment.

The golden shimmering PANDION DOXX building designed by schneider+schumacher and bb22 Architekten with 168 apartments is located on the harbour quay at Mainz Zollhafen. Apart from its shimmering golden façade, an additional unusual feature is its double-X-shaped floor plan. By contrast, at the North Vocational Training Centre, it is a square plan that characterises the new canteen there, along with its full-height glazed façade. The new building was designed and planned by Stuttgart architects wulf architekten. schneider+schumacher Bau- und Projektmanagement GmbH were responsible for on-site supervision.

The DAM Prize for Architecture has been awarded annually since 2007 to commend outstanding buildings in Germany. Currently the prize is awarded by the German Architecture Museum (DAM), in close and exclusive collaboration with the firm JUNG. During the next stage of the competition a jury of experts will shortlist around 20 buildings. All nominations will be published in a print edition – the Architecture Guide Germany 2023 – due to appear in October this year. In the meantime projects can be viewed on the DAM Prize for Architecture website:
