How does one preserve the spirit of a building while at the same time carefully adapting it to today’s energy requirements? This is the topic of the lecture “The fifth facade – the glass roof structure at the Mathildenhöhe exhibition building“. In early November, Astrid Wuttke, partner at schneider+schumacher Weiterbauen GmbH, presented the lecture in Frankfurt at the “Zak World of Façades” conference. Using this UNESCO World Heritage Site as an example, she also explained how to reconcile flexible exhibition concepts with historically protected buildings and how to achieve uniform illumination in exhibition halls.
The lecture is now available online on YouTube and starts at 1:01:57. With a video length of more than nine hours, there are also other contributions worth watching: A schedule of speakers and topics can be found at www.facadesde.com.
