Lili am See

Vienna, 2022
Residential/commercial buildings
Competition in cooperation with Architekten Tillner & Willinger

The project Lili am See originates from a design competition for a new landmark for the lakeside promenade in the locality of Seestadt Aspern in Vienna. The aim was to design a distinctive urban landscape made up of horizontally structured buildings plus higher blocks offering views of the lake from several angles, and to create a recognisable lakefront complex that offers both an urban buzz and open landscaping. “Lili am See” exemplifies a new approach to waterfront living, working, and leisure activities.

The design envisages street-level arcades for commerce and gastronomy, and busy passageways leading to the lake. The upper floors comprise apartments, clusters, and serviced apartments. With greened roofs plus a variety of communal areas for activities such as urban gardening, co-working, a pool terrace, and a yoga deck, the project aspires to become a lively neighbourhood attraction.

In terms of construction, a robust reinforced concrete frame is topped by sustainable timber elements at high level. Prefabricated components and flexible floor plans contribute towards its low ecological footprint and future adaptability.
