Herxheimerstraße 10
Frankfurt am Main, 2017
Ongoing project
Residential buildings
A new development comprising 42 subsidised flats is being built at Herxheimerstraße 10 in Frankfurt’s Gallus district – designed by schneider+schumacher on behalf of ABG Frankfurt Holding. The flats are being constructed on a plot of approximately 2,000 square metres, on which a high-rise bunker once stood.
The design envisages a long, narrow row of buildings whose form is inspired by the former bunker structure. The new development will comprise four full storeys, an additional penthouse level and a pitched roof housing the building services. The front-facing stairwells reinterpret the former stair tower.
Particular emphasis was placed on creating a green environment: the existing trees and green spaces will be preserved; the ground-floor flats will be complemented by terraces and garden areas; the upper-floor flats will have balconies; and the flats on the staggered storey will have small roof terraces.
