News from the Mathildenhöhe

29.03.2018 - Notes

June 2017 marked the start of renovation work to the exhibition hall at the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt. Since then, much has happened, all of it with the aim of bringing the building in line with contemporary exhibition practices.

The historic windows on the east elevation and the pitched roofs above Hall 4 are gradually being exposed. Various apertures and new openings are being created for the new in-house technical facilities, later to be covered up. The gallery in the foyer and the glazed elevation of the intermediate structure have already been dismantled.

The exhibition building forms part of an Art Nouveau ensemble at the Mathildenhöhe. The artists’ colony there has been on the proposal list for UNESCO World Cultural Heritage since 2014.

schneider+schumacher is responsible for carrying out renovation work phases 1-8.
