Canalside Hamm

05.03.2018 - Awards

In an urban planning invited competition entitled "Canalside Hamm – City Centre 2030", schneider+schumacher and Carla Lo Landscape Architects have won second prize. The city of Hamm plans to open up the city centre towards the canal, to develop areas for commerce, and to establish waterfront housing.

schneider+schumacher and Carla Lo’s concept was to close up the current gap in the urban structure with new buildings, near the town centre. The design encompasses a generously dimensioned promenade that directly links the new, open-structured neighbourhood beside the canal to the centre of town. The promenade is embedded in an existing park, with routes for pedestrians and cyclists. A public square, an abundance of green space and a huge timber boardwalk on the canal are additional attractions to help draw the local population to the waterfront.

The competition entries are on view until 26 March in the ground floor entrance hall of the Technical Town Hall.
