At the tip of Offenbach Harbour

An urban district with a unique silhouette will be taking shape at the far end of the Offenbach harbour island. The ensemble of three tall buildings will add a spectacular finishing touch in the transformation of an area that was once industrial wasteland. The scheme is being developed by a consortium consisting of the Gustav Zech Foundation and Deutsche Wohnwerte, collaborating with schneider+schumacher and the landscape architects Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl, plus the anchor tenants: DESIGN Offices and the ATLANTIC Hotel Group. Offenbach’s mayor, Horst Schneider, made the announcement at a joint press conference with the winning bidding consortium on Friday 19 May 2017.

The working consortium’s winning scheme “kap – At the tip of Offenbach Harbour“ was part of an investor selection process, organised by Mainviertel Offenbach GmbH & Co KG, which had included an urban design and massing study organised by Mainviertel Offenbach GmbH & Co. KG. The jury claimed the scheme successfully demonstrates a design for the entire neighbourhood that emphasises “the connection to the water” and, seen from any direction, creates an “unmistakable silhouette”. The jury members praised not only the distinctive architecture and the high quality of the open spaces, but also the marketing concept, since the project is safeguarded in the portfolio of the Gustav Zech Stiftung itself.

The land sale agreement between the Mainviertel Gesellschaft der Stadtwerke-Gruppe and the investor is due to be signed by the end of 2017. The project should go on site in 2019, and completion is expected in two or three years.
