Picnic Time in MAK

This year the Museum Angewandte Kunst is reviewing the fascination of picnics and dining out of doors over a wide range of different periods and cultures. The exhibition can be visited at Schaumainkai 17 and runs from 4 May until 17 September. Besides photographs, films, installations and objects, a new edition of the picnic set PICNIC, designed by schneider+schumacher in 1993, will be on display. The exhibition opening takes place on 5 May at 19:00.

The picnic set, designed for four, is flat and weighs as little as possible. The main element consists of a wooden board punched with a hole for carrying, plus four holes for beakers as well as two notches on the front and reverse, to take the rubber bands that secure the plates. Cutlery is wrapped in serviettes to prevent it rattling around and is placed next to the beakers, then covered by the plates.
