Synchron Stage Vienna celebrates opening

15.07.2016 - Notes

On July 14 an opening party was held to mark the inauguration of the new Synchron Stage Vienna, located on a site previously occupied by the Rosenhügel Film Studios. Over 200 international guests from the world of film, music, politics and business attended the party. Among these celebrities was the Hollywood composer Conrad Pope (The Hobbit), who conducted a piece he had composed for the occasion (see photo).

The Vienna Symphonic Library took over this historic listed recording studio in 2013. With the help of schneider+schumacher, who acted as general planning consultants, the 1940s building – previously used as a studio for recording film music with large orchestras – was revitalised over a two-year renovation period. It has now been redeveloped into a unique music production facility, the first of its kind worldwide. The work involved a total refit of the recording studio’s technical and electrical services, while the Walters-Storyk Design Group equipped the space with a state-of-the-art recording technology system. The interior has also had a smart makeover: the foyer now has 72 round ceiling-mounted mirrored elements, creating a generous, open space and increasing its perceived height.

The entire complex covers more than 3,000 m2 and provides a number of recording and directing rooms, editing studios, two areas for instrument storage plus a music archive. The first Hollywood commission has already been successfully completed: a music recording made at Synchron Stage Vienna for the screen adaptation of Dan Brown’s “Inferno” (composer: Hans Zimmer). The musical scores of several video games and advertisements, written for symphonic forces, have also been recorded with a large orchestra at the Synchron Stage Vienna.
