Polyvalent Identity

With the “Polyvalente Identität” design, schneider+schumacher won second prize in the architectural competition for the western building plots of the Glan Gärten in Salzburg, in collaboration with RieglerRiewe Architekten ZT and freiland Umweltconsulting ZT.
The design creates a vibrant neighbourhood whose quality arises from the deliberate interplay of different buildings, typologies, scales and atmospheres. Its strength lies in combining apparent opposites: the district is urban and green, communal and private, robust and open. It has an identity of its own and yet remains part of a larger whole.
The jury’s verdict: “The building volumes convincingly and well-proportionately form the respective communal courtyards and, in some cases, create very attractive transitions from the communal courtyard to the surrounding public spaces, such as the park or the Angerkreuz, for example the circular building in the southern part. The high points are nicely placed and relate well to the neighbouring volumes. Overall, the architectural richness of detail establishes a good sense of scale and suggests a varied neighbourhood.”
