ZeluBa nominated for the WoodPoP Dara Award

The Centre for Lightweight and Environmentally-Friendly Buildings (ZeluBa), designed by DGI Bauwerk and schneider+schumacher, has been nominated as one of three German projects for the WoodPoP Dara Award 2026. Presented for the first time this year, the European Wood Policy Platform (WoodPoP) award recognises outstanding timber construction projects at European level that combine innovation, sustainability and design quality whilst delivering social added value.
Since 2021, the hybrid timber building on the TU Braunschweig campus has served as a workplace for researchers at Fraunhofer WKI. In line with ZeluBa’s research focus – the research of sustainable lightweight construction solutions for the building industry – the planning process centred on the use of renewable raw materials in combination with more conventional materials. Timber, in particular, was utilised as a structural and sustainable building material. The structural performance advantages of timber, steel and precast concrete elements were combined, resulting in a timber-hybrid structure that is optimised in terms of function, structural integrity and cost-effectiveness.
