Healing Architecture

With the Healing Architecture Award, Callwey Verlag honours forward-thinking healthcare projects that stand out for their functionality and sustainability. Among the nominated designs is the Kao-Ho Hospital in Taiwan, planned by schneider+schumacher. The winners of the award will be announced in October.
The Kao-Ho Hospital is situated on a 12,000-square-metre site in the centre of the port city of Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan, bordered by major roads to the north and west. The eight-storey building consists of two parts – a clinical area and an office area. The green courtyard with palm trees, situated between the two sections, allows views of the plants from every floor. The clinical area is arranged around a centrally located atrium that extends from the ground floor to the eighth floor. The hospital is completely enveloped by a translucent façade. At night, the interior lighting behind the glass façade illuminates the entire building.
