Obituary for Stefano Turri
Stefano Turri was a genuine individual—a dedicated architect.
When we were all still young, we designed and built the Braun headquarters with Stefano. The contract fit on one page, and to this day it remains our only construction project that was completed two weeks ahead of schedule and cost exactly what was estimated. In addition to the circumstances of the time, this was mainly due to Stefano, who, as project manager, drove both the design and execution forward with focus, perseverance and high standards.
In China, we were moving into territory that was unfamiliar to us at the time: who was the client, and would we receive the agreed fee? Stefano did not fly back until he had achieved our goals.
In Austria, during the application phase of a competition, he convinced the client, the ‘hidden champion’ FRONIUS, that we were the right architects for the client’s individual requirements, using a Venetian gondolier’s wooden oar that he had brought with him. We won the competition, the house has long been built, and the users are still happy.
That’s the kind of person he was.
After fruitful years of collaboration, he started his own business – which was the right thing to do. We are very sad. We will always remember the time we spent together, the projects, the conversations and his unconditional determination. How we would have loved to share our memories of this time with him once again.
Till and Michael
