Hoepfner dream houses completed

02.02.2026 - Notes

In December, construction of the Hoepfner dream houses designed by schneider+schumacher was completed on the Hoepfner site in Karlsruhe. Commissioned by Hoepfner Bräu Verwaltungsgesellschaft, an ensemble of three high-quality apartment buildings in a sustainable wood-concrete hybrid construction was built on a plot of land measuring around 4,100 square meters.

The residential buildings, located next to a tree-covered grove, are staggered in height and arranged around a shared courtyard. They offer a total of 48 rental apartments and are connected underground via a shared parking garage. The residential concept is complemented by a spacious common room, a guest apartment, a fitness room, and areas for urban gardening.

A holistic energy concept comprising district heating, heat pumps, and photovoltaic systems ensures that the buildings meet the KfW 40 EE energy standard. Great importance was also attached to sustainability in the choice of materials: the supporting structure and facade are made of wood, while above ground only the cores, the bracing walls, and a small part of the ceilings were constructed in reinforced concrete. The sustainable material concept is consistently continued in the interior. Floor slabs in wood-concrete composite construction and visible wood surfaces characterize the interior and create a warm, cozy atmosphere. The facade made of pre-grayed spruce wood shingles makes the structural materiality visible from the outside.
