Pier G now connected to Terminal 3

25.11.2025 - Notes

Frankfurt Airport’s new Terminal 3 is scheduled to open in 2026. 20 years ago, the Frankfurt architect Christoph Mäckler won the competition with his ‘Growing Beetle’ concept. The terminal will eventually have 4 gates (K, J, H, G), whereby gates J, H, G are initially being built in two phases. There is still no timetable for the construction of Pier K.

In 2019, work started on the structural shell of Pier G, designed to accommodate direct flights to classic holiday destinations. While the construction phase was in full swing it employed some 900 construction workers per day on site. In the 1st construction phase Pier G was structurally complete in 2022, on schedule and within budget, under the supervision of schneider+schumacher Bau- und Projektmanagement GmbH. It is a self-sufficient terminal building and has been officially approved by Fraport but for the time being it is dormant. Here schneider+schumacher acted as a subcontractor of Christoph Mäckler Architekten.

An important milestone has been reached in relation to the building’s commissioning, which is planned to coincide with the opening of Terminal 3. In the so-called construction phase 2.2. Pier G was connected to the main terminal building. Since 2023 schneider+schumacher Bau- und Projektmanagement GmbH has been responsible for service phase 8 for this project, namely property supervision.
