Ramp for U5 Underground Line

03.11.2025 - Notes

At the end of September, visitors had the opportunity to view the ramp designed by schneider+schumacher that leads into the U5 underground line tunnel. Located in the centre of Europa-Allee, this section of ramp – an inclined transition from the below-ground section of the U5 underground line up to ground level – is part of an extension to the U5 line, which includes four new stations covering the segment between Frankfurt Central Station into the Europaviertel district.

On ‘Rail Day’, a nationwide event, Frankfurt’s department for mobility plus SBEV – the group responsible for rail development and traffic infrastructure projects – invited the public to an Open Construction Site Day, where they could explore the future underground tunnel on foot.

schneider+schumacher, alongside CDM Smith, were commissioned to design the ramp in 2012. In 2018, SBEV funded a special contract for 3D parametrics to support its implementation.
