Site visit to the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in the Pfalz

01.09.2025 - Notes

At the end of August, we visited Ludwigshafen to see how construction is progressing on a new building for the Palatinate Chamber of Industry and Commerce, designed by schneider+schumacher. The building, planned as a compact structure, exactly fits the two differing site boundaries and blends in with the heterogeneous character of the existing building stock. Behind a folded, glazed façade, spaces for sustainable contemporary and inspiring working and training environments are being created. The generously glazed façade is complemented by the new building‘s special design feature: a sculptural spiral staircase in the atrium.

In terms of energy standards, technical equipment, and the choice of materials, it is a sustainable building. So-called ‘bubbles’, or hollow plastic forms, have been incorporated into the concrete, both to save material and to reduce the weight of the ceiling slabs, resulting in a reduction of CO₂ . The building offers around 7500m² of usable space and is being constructed by a consortium comprising of Schifferstadt-based HEBERGER Hoch-, Tief- und Ingenieurbau GmbH, and Implenia Hochbau GmbH. Thanks go to our project manager Patrick Lange for offering us a glimpse of this exciting on-site project.
