An Interview with Till Schneider

“Dieter Rams’ design approach demonstrates that through the process of concentrating and reducing a design, a certain density and clarity can be achieved. As Till Schneider says in an interview recently published on the rams foundation website: “His credo ‘Less, but better’ certainly holds true for one or two of our projects.”

In conversation with Gerrit Terstiege, Schneider talks about architectural designs over the past 30 years that have been particularly important to him – such as the Braun headquarters in Kronberg, where Rams was Head of Design for more than thirty years, which was completed 25 years ago. The interview also touches on Schneider’s creative partnership with Michael Schumacher and the future of both design and architecture disciplines.

Dieter Rams, the industrial designer, celebrated his 93rd birthday on 20 May. Till Schneider has been a member of the board of trustees of the rams foundation for many years and he fondly remembers Rams’ visit to schneider+schumacher’s office in Frankfurt (photo, right).
