Currently, Frankfurt’s underground Line U5 is being extended by four stations from Frankfurt’s main railway station in the direction of the Europaviertel. The route leads from the underground station Güterplatz via a ramp to the surface at the centre of Europa-Allee. Since the beginning of 2022 the so-called ‘trough structure’ for the ramp – a U-shaped arrangement of lateral retaining walls and a baseplate – has been under construction, via which the underground line will eventually reach ground level.
Already as far back as 2012, schneider+schumacher was commissioned together with CDM Smith, to undertake the design of the ramp. In 2018, Stadtbahn Entwicklung und Verkehrsinfrastrukturprojekte Frankfurt GmbH (SBEV) awarded a special contract for 3D parametric support in planning the project’s implementation. schneider+schumacher is accompanying the execution of the ramp, the shell of which has now been completed, through to its planned conclusion. The entire route of the extended underground line U5 can be seen in this video visualisation:
