The breaking ground ceremony for the new competence center of the laboratory service provider amedes has taken place at Herbert-Quandt-Straße in Göttingen. The site is part of a new urban innovation district initiated by EBR Immobilien project and urban developers. schneider+schumacher undertook the urban design for the three-part building ensemble plus parking garage. The complex, on a 19,400m2 site, will be finished in 2024. It consists of an administration building with a green roof, a vertical greened south facade, a laboratory building, and a logistics centre for supplying multiple locations and partner practices.
The complex comprises 5650m2 of usable space and has been individually tailored to the client’s needs. The design travel distances between the laboratory, warehouse, logistics and central areas are all kept to a minimum. In addition to designing the amedes administration building, schneider+schumacher also took on the urban planning of the innovation district.
According to Borzou Rafie Elizei, Managing Director of EBR: “This represents an optimistic start for an innovation district, with architecture of the future that will attract other forward-looking companies to Göttingen.”
