The Bolongaro Palace was erected by the two Bolongaro brothers in the late 18th century. It is the largest private building of the Baroque era and currently serves as the town hall for Frankfurts Höchst district. Both the building and its surrounding park are listed as historic monuments.
There were two main issues to adress.Firstly, renovating and maintaining the palaces built fabric in line with the requirements of the listed building department and secondly, generating a new functional concept for the building with the aim of increasing the overall appeal of the complex.
The plan now is to create a museum and prestigious event space that also offers a catering space. Along with the remaining municipal functions (the branch office of the Mayor and the Registry Office) this offers a well-rounded concept for its future use.
The palaces renovation and conversion work include the following measures:
– Renovation of the buildings envelope (facades and roof)
– Introduction of a fire protection plan (fire compartmentalization, comprehensive alarm system, escape stairs)
– The strengthening of the the built fabric
– Interior renovation work
– Updating and extending of the technical installations
– Dismantling walls, standard and arched ceilings in order to fit with the new geometry and vertical circulation routes
– The construction of vertical circulation areas (staircases and lifts)
– Roofing of the west courtyard
