Friendly, sceptical, surprised

30.06.2023 - Notes

Twelve sculptures from the series “sunrise. east.” by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone moved into the Städel garden in late June. They stand between the skylights, arranged in a circle around the mound, and each one gazes at the public with its own unique facial expression. Until November 5, visitors will have the opportunity to encounter the two-metre-high shiny silver aluminum sculptural heads face-to-face in the Städel garden, which was originally created as part of the museum expansion planned by schneider+schumacher.

In an interview, the artist talks, among other things, about the creation and arrangement of the sculptures.
